HVAC system: Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are mechanical devices used to heat, cool, and ventilate buildings. They typically use a building’s existing ductwork infrastructure and vents to deliver air throughout a structure. The air is distributed by fans, blowers, or other types of moving machines that can be controlled automatically or manually by building occupants.

As mentioned above, HVAC systems can be split into three categories: heating, cooling, and ventilation. In addition to these general categories, there are several subcategories within them:

  • Heating – This category includes furnaces that burn natural gas or propane (or another fuel source) to create hot water that heats your home’s water supply pipes, carrying warm water into radiators throughout your house. It also includes forced-air heating units like baseboard heaters which use large fans inside walls to blow hot air out into rooms when they’re turned on during cold weather months when you want warmer temperatures inside than outside.
  • Cooling – This category uses refrigerant gases such as freon (chemical compounds made up mostly of carbon dioxide with some nitrogen) circulating through coils installed in an HVAC unit outside, where they evaporate into the surrounding area much like sweat does on the skin when we exercise outdoors during summer months, so our bodies stay cool enough not only survive but thrive under those conditions without overheating.
  • Ventilation – This is the process of moving air through an HVAC system in order to remove moisture and odors from inside a building. It works by using fans installed in vents or ducts to force the flow of outside air into your home or business where it’s needed most.
